Looking for nicknames for Eliza…?

Eliza: what does the baby name mean?

Are you thinking of using the baby name Eliza, or looking for nicknames for Eliza?

First, some background on the name. Eliza is an English baby name with Hebrew origins, meaning ‘pledged to God’ or ‘God is my oath.’

Although it is sometimes used as a nickname in itself, as a shortened version of the regal baby name Elizabeth, it is also a stand-alone name.

Considered a ‘vintage’ baby name, Eliza is a baby name one that has become more popular in recent years, following the trend for using baby names that were previously considered old-fashioned names.

How we picked our baby name:

It took us ages to pick our Eliza’s name – it was a long process of me suggesting an obscure old lady name and being instantly vetoed by my husband.

Both Alex and I are known by short versions of our names, so we knew we wanted something with nickname potential. After a long process of elimination, we decided to go with Eliza, which is a family name on Alex’s side of the family, one we loved and one we knew had nickname potential.

As always with babies, after a long process of picking a name, it turns out there’s now a million different things we call her, most of which are only tenuously linked to her name. I’m sure even now this list doesn’t include them all, but here goes:

I love these! Brilliant how his pre-birth name has given birth to loads of new ones 🙂 Will be interesting to tell them when they’re grown up – I can imagine the confused looks!

Chloe rarely gets called her name. She is generally known as Boo-boo. Then my mum sometimes calls her Ruby Lee (which is her middle names – and were names she was going to have before she was born presuming she was a girl!). As a bump she was called Junior.
Her other nickname is Puckypoo. A phrase I thought my other half kept calling her. It should be Duckypoo (a reference to late 80s kids cartoon Count Duckula) but I hear Puckypoo. So it’s stuck!

Great nicknames! Imagine explaining them to her when she’s older “Well once upon a time I misheard your father…” 🙂
