The best (winter) dresses for breastfeeding

Dresses suitable for breastfeeding in winter

Are you looking for stylish winter dresses suitable for breastfeeding…that you actually want to wear? I’d forgotten how hard it is to find nice, non-frumpy feeding clothes, especially if you want something that’s fitted or different than a wrap dress.

Enter Milk & Mummy, a site that aims to sell beautiful breastfeeding clothes for stylish mums, suitable for all occasions – from playgroups to parties. It’s the brainchild of a mum who found it tricky to find chic and stylish clothes for breastfeeding her own children (sound familiar?).

I’ve been a massive fan for a while, and reviewed the summer striped breastfeeding dress after Eliza was born, which I loved – and I was offered another dress to review from the A/W collection that’s on the site at the moment.

I chose the Sofia in black and white (basically the winter version of the blue and white one, as I loved that so much, also, stripes). It comes in two other colours, blue and purple and multicoloured, and is £49.

Stylish nursing dress

Winter’s a perfect time to have clothes with breastfeeding access, as it’s cold so you don’t have to worry about exposing your post-baby stomach or getting drafty.

The breastfeeding access in this dress is through an under-boob shelf, which makes it really discreet – you just latch the baby on and the elasticated top layer covers up anything else.

But it’s testament to how nice the dress is that this is only part of it; I still wore my summer one even after stopping feeding. It’s fitted and feels really flattering (here it is minus baby):

It has wintery long sleeves, but it’s made of cotton so you won’t overheat with a warm baby constantly attached to your chest. And it’s thin enough so you can layer it up.

It’s also a practical dress – without being boring – in that it’s lovely but you wouldn’t mind rolling on the floor and chasing a toddler around in it. And as a mum, you can’t ask for much for than that really.

There’s lots of other maternity and breastfeeding dresses on the site – if you’re looking for a more dressy Christmas party dress try the lace Vida, or the Josie, and the Lola is fab too.

(My necklace is from Jenny Packham, baby all my own).

Here’s my favourite maternity dresses, experiences of breastfeeding second-time-round, and tips for breastfeeding and social media.

Oh that’s really pretty – though the baby is a complete scene stealer!! I’m definitely with you on not wanting to feel too drafty nursing in the winter, chilly is not a good nursing look!
