Our beautiful* bathroom makeover – the before

Our bathroom rennovation

Bathroom rennovationAs I write this, the builder is nosily smashing something upstairs, we are minus a toilet, sink and shower, there is dust everywhere , 20 bags of rubble in our front garden and 20 bottles of shampoo in our bedroom. It’s our bathroom renovation – day three!

We knew when we bought the house that it was a huge project and everything needed doing. But I don’t think we realised just how much of a big task it was (or the trickiness of having a toddler underfoot). It’s fun though, if not slightly challenging at times. The house to-do list seems pretty endless, and everything seems stuck in a big loop of waiting for something else to be done first. Not terribly satisfying when you’re an incredibly impatient person, really.

The current phase – new downstairs loo, upstairs bathroom, kitchen – is all pretty major work, and very disruptive, but it feels good to be doing something that will make such a huge and positive difference to living here. No more horrible, erm, ‘retro’ bathroom suite, damp and questionable decor (aka five layers of peeling wallpaper over 50 layers of paint).

Eliza doesn’t seem that phased by it so far, and is very curious about all the work that ‘Bob Builder’ is doing,  apart from when there are drills involved (she hates the noise; we have loud music or some strategically distractive daytime Peppas on those days).

These photos are like the anti-Pinterest, aren’t they? I’m trying really hard to focus on the end result instead of the current chaos. It’s actually really good to see the whole room be gutted, walls and all, and getting to pick our new suite and tiles.

* Optimism!

    its a really good thing you’re taking photos. We’ve only done a couple of bits to our house so far and I wish I’d taken ‘before’ snaps. Would’ve been good to look back at how far we’ve already come. Good luck!

    Very reminiscent of what our first kitchen looked like! I came home to an earth floor, cold water standpipe and a demolished chimney stack. Still we hadn’t even Alex in mind at the time but it was cold and dark in November….

    Oh I so want a house to pull apart decorate and call my own. It;s great you’re taking all these pics now so you can reminisce and see what a great job you did when finished. x
