BritMums Live 2012 – from the other side of the fence

June 25, 2012

Photos from Britmums Live 2012Two years ago I attended the first Cybermummy conference in PR capacity with my client tommee tippee. It was brilliant to meet so many bloggers, and at that point I was very much hoping that would be me soon. Skip forward twenty four months, a new blog and an even newer baby, and I attended BritMums Live 2012 this time as a delegate with child in tow.

Eliza was, quite literally, a baby on board; I took her in the Baby Bjorn, which she’s loved ever since we’ve used it with her facing outwards. I was mildy concerned about how we’d get on but needn’t have worried, and being in such a positive, baby-friendly environment with lots of other tiny children around was fantastic.

The conference line-up was really strong, and Eliza managed to sit through about a tenth of it, which was probably a tenth more than I’d initially hoped for (we ended up seeing Ruby Wax, the future of blogging panel, then some of the WordPress talk on Saturday). This did mean we got to spend time taking baby breaks in the main hub, eating Give as you Live cupcakes, winning John Lewis vouchers – just in time for high chair buying – and having our photo taken in the Acer UK photo booth. Much more fun than working…

As always though, the best part was the chance to meet people. It was great to see some of my favourite bloggers again – especially Jax and Karin – and introduce them to the baby, and then to finally meet lots of others people I’ve spent so long chatting to on Twitter and reading all about on their blogs.

Compared to the first year I went, it’s fair to say that I much preferred going as a blogger this time round! And I loved taking Eliza, especially as so many people came over to say hello, or stopped to chat, or just made a lovely comment in passing. Although we did miss out on most of the talks – so I’ll be interested to read the reports when they’re posted – it was definitely worth going just for the chance to see and meet people alone.

Good to hear it from both sides. I think having a baby would have been a bonus when it came to meeting others – they do break down the barriers! Sorry you missed more of the talks, but glad you enjoyed it anyway.

I may have smiled at your baby, but not sure we spoke! Maybe next year!

So true, I found she was such a good ice breaker! I’m sure we must have passed each other – hopefully we can meet soon (and look forward to reading your blog).

Taking a baby definitely is a positive move. I took Talitha to Blog Camp Bristol last year and felt a lot more chilled out about the social atmosphere because she was my priority. Lovely to meet you. Thanks for letting me hold scrumptious Eliza.

Lovely to see another London blogger – you both look very happy.
