Going on a letter hunt…

The letter A

Letter e - found alphabet

Eliza is currently learning her alphabet at nursery, so when we’re out and about she’ll stop at every car registration plate or street sign and point out “my letter….Florence’s letter…Daddy’s letter” and so on. It’s a great way to kill time on slow days (not so great on the days when we actually have somewhere to go, though).

It’s actually quite fun, finding letters in the wild – I think as an adult you don’t really see things you look at all the time, but as a child you realise that all these things you see are actually these things you’re learning about…and they are all around you.

So I’ve started taking photos of her journey of letter discovery and will be putting them on Instagram with the #theelizabet hashtag. At the moment, as the two photos testify, it’s not so much an A-Z as an A-E, but we’ll get there.

I thought it would also capture an insight into our days in the wonderful ‘summer’ that required sunglasses and flipflops along with knitwear.

Are you on Instagram? I’m gill_c (follow me if you’re not already, and give me a shout if I’m not following you either). And follow A Baby on Board on Facebook too…

P.S. baby milestone cards…for mums and all about the post-pregnancy rage.

Great idea. We love doing this too- mine always used to say “your letter” etc too, so sweet. Such a great idea to record it like this! My kids have had to return to raincoats and wellies this week! 🙁 x

We learn from our around. Babies are also mimic. so this can be the media of learning capitals for her.

    This is adorable <3

Cherry learned letters from road signs mainly – at her request we stopped at every sign between our house and preschool. She also used to spot letters on the ground and so on, (and numbers in road signs). Aren't they just SO observant?!

[…] I bundled the three of us out the door and we went to do the nursery drop-off, shouting out all the letters we saw on the way. The baby and I then went to the shop and then came home. I made a cup of tea […]
