What’s your healthy eating IQ? £50 Co-Op voucher giveaway
What’s everyone’s post-baby diet like? When I was pregnant I was really healthy; I ate loads of fruit and veg, drank a lot of water and had three proper meals a day (OK, so I did also develop a sweet tooth and cravings for strawberry milkshake, but you get the gist). But my post-baby daytime diet consists of a lot of cake, biscuits for breakfast on bad days, and whatever I can grab from the fridge whenever I remember. We always eat well at night – lots of slow cooker goodness – and I’m really strict on Eliza’s food, but mine in the day is…not so great. I owe a lot to the magical weight-loss power of breastfeeding!
This January the Government’s healthy living initiative Change4Life has launched ‘Be Food Smart’, which aims to show mums and dads how to recognise the foods that contain hidden sugar, salt and fat and find healthier alternatives for the family. To get everyone started Change4Life has created a ‘Meal Mixer’, a free healthier recipe tool, which will be sent out to everyone who signs-up to Change4Life.
A Facebook Food IQ quiz has also been launched to test your healthy eating knowledge; 77% of respondents of the Food IQ Quiz scored 50% or less with 63% of people not realising that a small pepperoni pizza has more saturated fat than fish & chips. Try the food quiz, it’s fun – I got a shocking 25%! – and let me know how you get on.
To raise awareness of this new campaign I’m giving away a £50 gift voucher from the Co-Operative along with your very own Meal Mixer. To enter:
- Leave a comment below telling me what your favourite fruit or vegetable is (winners will be picked at random; make sure you leave your email address so I can get in touch).
- For an additional entry – ‘like’ the A Baby on Board Facebook page and leave an additional comment telling me you’ve done it
- For another additional entry – add the A Baby on Board Google+ page to your circles and leave another additional comment telling me you’ve done it
The competiton will run until the end of February, and I’ll announce the winner here at the start of March. Good luck!
T&Cs as follows – 1) The prize giveaway will open at 3pm on 19.01.13 and close at 10pm on 28.02.13 2) The prize is one £50 voucher for the Co-Operative supermarket and a Change4Life Meal Mixer. No cash or alternative prizes will be given 3) To enter you must leave a comment on this blog post, and include your email address. You can also gain an additional entry if you ‘like’ the A Baby on Board Facebook page and leave me a comment to let me know, and another additional entry if you like the A Baby on Board Google+ page and leave me a comment to let me know (each person can only enter once, with three entries in total per person) 4) The winner will be picked at random from all entries 5) The winner will be notified via email by 03.03.13. The winner must reply by 06.03.13 or a new winner will be picked at random from the list 6) The name of the winners will be put on this post once they have replied. 7) I reserve the right to change the closing date for whatever reason. Thanks!

I scored a dismal 50 percent. Apparently, I need to learn more about salt! My favourite vegetable is the yummy carrot but I like them caramelised in heaps of butte so maybe that doesn’t count 😉

58% on the test, really thought i had done better! Just goes to show how easy it is to put on weight and lose track of what is actually good for us! I think the most surprising answer for me was the sugar in the Yoghurt! Thanks for pointing out the Food IQ/ Change4Life quiz, i’ll be sharing this with friends and comparing our shocking scores!
My favourite ‘fruit’ would be Cherries but out of season the price rockets so i tend to buy the frozen summer fruits which are so handy for throwing together an easy dessert on a weekend (Jumbleberry Crumble by Nigella is a hit) but as the test suggested, i do need to look at the Sugar and Salt content of food a bit more so maybe i will have to replace some of the sugar in the crumble for something else… fresh air maybe??? 🙂
Other than that i would say Peppers and Olives as we LOVE Mediterranean food in our house and whether we are cooking a nice Lasagne, Paella or a simple Greek salad, Olives and Peppers tend to feature quite a lot of the time!
