How does your garden grow? Win a £75 Sainsbury’s voucher

June 25, 2013

Garden toysWhat would be in your fantasy garden? Ours would have an Olympic-sized trampoline, a children’s adventure playground, an adult treehouse, a maze with a champagne bar in the middle and a microclimate meaning it would be warm and sunny *all* the time.

Gardens are such a integral part of childhood memories, aren’t they? A garden is one of the reasons we’re so keen to move – although we do have one it’s three floors down, and I can’t just let the toddler loose in there. So the trampoline’s on hold…for the time being.

But what’s your garden worth to you? In collaboration with Sainsbury’s Bank Home Insurance, I’m bringing you a prize draw where one person can win a £75 Sainsbury’s voucher. And whether or not you win, your gardening ideas from your comment could also potentially appear in a future Money Matters Blog post (so make sure you’re happy with that before you enter).

So…how *do* I enter?

  • Log in to the Rafflecopter widget below and enter the draw by leaving a comment on this post with your ideas for: what’s your garden worth to you?
  • You can also enter by tweeting about the giveaway

The winner will be chosen via Rafflecopter (which uses and announced on this page.

This giveway opens at 00.00am on Wednesday 26th June and closes on Wednesday 3rd July at 00:00am. The T&Cs are included in the Rafflecopter widget. Good luck!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

I’m also giving away a deluxe Emma-Jane nursing top and the chance to win over £1000 worth of prizes in this post.

*I was provided with a £25 Sainsbury’s voucher of my own as thanks for running this competition.

Our vegetable beds are great places to teach the kids about where and how food is grown. They feed us, keep us busy and get us outdoors in all weathers, they provide a wonderful habitat for all sorts of wildlife….some more welcome than others! They are cheap to set up, we plant in all sorts of recycled containers and growing from seed is very economical… long as you don’t mind the wait!

    June 26, 2013 at 3:12 pm

We love our garden, when we first moved to our house the garden was probably one of the biggest draws.
Having two little boys and previously living with a garden that was not safe for them to play in, I really wanted an area that was safe for them to play and explore in whilst being very adult friendly for my husband and I to entertain to.
Our garden incorporates both of these needs, its large with lots of different areas all divided by established plants and bushes to ensure privacy but also give our little boys lots of areas to explore and allow my husband and I to flex our green fingers.
We have put a wooden play gym in the top of the garden for the boys, which cannot be seen from our patio at the bottom because of clever planting of different bushes.
My very favourite area is the patio and BBQ area, I love the different coloured slates, our cosy garden future and being surrounded by different potted plants including our gorgeous bamboo, even more so if we are enjoying a BBQ there.

I have two rose bushes I value in my garden one is called Diana my lovely aunts name who died of cancer, my friend brought me this on the day of her funeral and the other is another Rose bush my friend brought me after her son died. That is the sad part. However when I seem the roses in bud and out in full bloom I am reminded how much love and happiness they brought to my life.

I love being in the countryside away from it all, so living in a town my garden is the nearest I get. Its a wildlife zone in the middle of noisy chaos! I have a pond full of newts, bumble bees nesting in a birdbox and frogs in my ‘wildlife corner’. Time spent out in the garden is mostly about creating places for wildlife to be happy and safe, peering into the pond to see what I can see and being chased off by bees for getting too close!

I chose this house because of the garden – as soon as I walked in, I fell in love!
Although, I must confess, that it was already well established, but I have added my touches to it over the years.
My favourite bit is my old sun lounger, where I can see the whole garden & lie back & enjoy the view.
I also enjoy picking the fruit from the trees with my daughter .. it’s great to stand back & literally enjoy the fruits of our our labour!

So at the moment they cannot play on the lawn and sit with me on the pation doing outside painting and sand play, but if anyone has any ideas how to get rid of red ants simply, please let me know!

In my garden, what I value most are my beautiful lavender bushes. They look lifeless and dried-up in winter. Then they suddenly burst into life. Throughout the summer months, they give off the most beautiful scent but best of all, they attract lots & lots of hardworking bumble bees & moths. Times are really tough for bumble bees & moths right now, so it’s good to know my lavender is giving them a helping hand.

The birds that visit. We moved here 9 months ago and didn’t see any birds in the neighbourhood for months. We started putting food out for them in the vain hope we could attract some. Now we have a blackbird family and a sparrow family that have built nests in our hedge and have fluffy babies that feed on the lawn as well as a resident robin and a couple of pigeons 🙂

We have a patio area in our garden, which leads down to a small lawned area. Above this used to be quite a large area of shrubs, plants and weeds until my husband worked very hard (in the rain for most of the day) to clear the raised area of all the weeds & bushes and laid turf to make a second lawn for our children to play on. The extra space has been so useful and is worth a lot to us as it has made our garden look loads bigger and now our children have more room for playing and can fit their bouncy castle, paddling pool and things all in the garden at once now. We are hoping to buy them a new playhouse soon to put on the new top lawn too 🙂
