New shoes and Magic Steps

Clarks shoes hotel image brogues in yellow

When I was younger I really, really, wanted – more than anything in the world, at the time – a pair of Magic Steps shoes from Clarks. They were the ones with the magical key on the soles. Clearly I was a huge sucker for the power of advertising as I can still picture the TV ad now, with the Princess and the evil Queen / shop manager:

Who else remembers it?

Fast forward a fair few decades (sob) and although I never had Magic Steps, I’m just as entranced by my new pair from Clarks. They’re the Hotel Image brogues in mustard leather and are pretty lovely (I just checked and they’re sold out online, but you can get them in white, and if you want something in yellow / mustard I also like this pair, or this pair).

The shoes are leather loafers with cutaway sections on the side, which makes them a good in-between shoe for those days when the weather just can’t make up its mind (so most days then).

We’ve bought lots of children’s shoes for Eliza from the store, but I can’t remember when Clarks got so good for adults.

Did you ever have Magic Steps? Tell me, I won’t be – too – jealous.

Thanks to Clarks for sending me these shoes – also contains affiliate links.

I did have a pair of magic steps but – and please don’t be too mad about this – I don’t remember being aware of what they were before I got them, or especially wanting them. As I recall it they were just the ones that fit me best from a limited selection in my size on that particular day. I did absolutely love them once I had them though, if that makes you feel any better!

🙂 you can’t possibly be telling me they were just normal shoes! (I’m pretty sure the only thing that was different was the key?!) x

Well, you know, once I put them on I did actually *become* a real princess! I’m sure I came across the plastic key thingy in my old jewellery box (you know the ones with the spinney ballerina thing inside that we all had) when I was clearing out a few years ago!

I love your yellow shoes! I’m not sure whether it’s good or bad news that they are out of stock…it helps my bank balance!

I was never allowed magic steps, still wish I’d been able to have a pair! I remember coveting them SO much.

Lovely lovely mustard shoes though, beautiful and practical? Way better than magic steps 😉

Ahhhh that ADVERT!! It brings back so many memories. I wanted those shoes (and I wanted to be that little girl) so much. Love your mustard shoes. So so nice. I’ve looked at those in cream a few times but always convince myself I don’t need them!
