Are You Looking For The Best White Noise App For Babies?

Are you looking for the best white noise app for babies? White noise is brilliant for soothing babies and getting them to go to sleep. Having a white noise app for babies is handy and useful – especially if you want more sleep.

My Baby Is Teething, Help!

We are teething at the moment – I say ‘we’ as only one of us is cutting teeth but the other two are up with her, of course.

One thing we’ve found that really works to help soothe your baby is white noise., White noise, or ambient noise, is that background noise that can help them sleep – from the crackling sound, through to rain, hoover sounds or the hairdryer.

How White Noise Can Help Your Baby

White noise is fantastic for soothing and settling babies to sleep, as it mimics the muffled sounds they hear in the womb (so it’s particularly brilliant during the ‘fourth trimester’ when they’re newly hatched and the world is a startling and alien place).

It’s the same premise as putting the hoover or washing machine on.

The Best Apps To Play White Noise

  • Alex found an app called Sleepy Sounds during one night of newborn no-sleep desperation, and I lost count of the amount of times we played it to Eliza at night, on the bus, in the car or when were walking round and round the park to calm her down when she was really little.
  • It stops working so much as they get older, but the app also has wildlife sounds and lullabies on a loop. We play these as part of our nap / bedtime routine and they work a treat (this is what I was playing to her last night to get her back to sleep).
  • Your Amazon Alexa will also play a wide variety of white noises, from rain to whale sounds. It’s an Alexa skill – say ‘Alexa, play white noise’ to set it up.
  • There are so many white noises on Spotify, including albums of different rain sounds. Play them on repeat!

I’m not saying white noise works every time, but it definitely helps. And as every parent who’s been awake at 5am – and 2am, 3am, 4am, 6am – knows, you can’t ask for more than that, can you?

We are addicted to white noise in our house. Amelie’s 6 months and we still use it. I don’t even know if it works anymore but I’m too scared to turn it off and find out!

Don’t turn it off! 🙂 It is funny how reliant you get on things – but finding something that works is such a holy grail (especially where naptime or sleep is concerned!)

Hope you don’t mind me posting this, but I created my own app for this very same reason! It features a few different “white noise” type sounds, some lullabies and some peaceful, animated scenes. It’s called Slumber Tot
