Change of a dress

February 17, 2013

Yellow thingsHow has your style changed post-baby? Mine is much more casual now, mainly as there’s no real need to dress up for trips to Sainsbury’s, working from home or lying on the floor while a little person uses me as a climbing frame.

It is so nice to actually put dressier clothes on when I’m going out or in the office though (I miss wearing all my lovely dresses!). So when I was asked to review an item from clothing website Joe Browns, I wanted to go for something that was a bit different from my typical new mum-iform of skinny jeans, Converse and one of my collection of eight million stripy tops.

I have to admit Joe Browns is not somewhere I’d normally think to shop, but when I looked at the site there were two dresses I really liked. In the style of continuing to challenge my conventional shopping habits I picked the Very Vintage dress, as it was so different to anything else I own.

And you know what? I really like it. I love the design – 60’s Megan from MadMen – the mustardy yellow colour and the pattern. And it has 3/4 length sleeves which will make it a good interim dress for spring. The style is pretty loose – mine is a size 8 and still quite big – so I’ve been wearing it with a belt to make it more fitted.

Very Vintage dressI’m also wearing two necklaces from Urban Outfitters (the ‘G’ one in this post and another one, both were presents from my husband), leather belt from ancient times Topshop, ring (also the top-right close-up in the above picture) present from my mother-in-law, and the black leggings I was sent along with the dress. Baby, models’ own.

My mum has kindly pointed out I’m not really selling the dress or leggings in these photos as you can’t see them all. I know! Sorry Tyra. I can’t smize, and still find it a bit weird doing the posing thing. I am clearly not America’s Next Top…you get the picture.

So thanks Joe Browns! And yes, take a look at the site – at the moment all the new spring stock is in, and there’s a couple of really lovely dresses, especially if you want something that’s different from the typical high-street sameness.

I’m also over on Clemmie’s lovely blog talking about push presents at the moment (it’s only taken a year, but mine arrived today! I love it).

Oh, the size 8 is too big, poor you Gill 🙂 This put a smile on my face this morning. You look fab. I’d choose you as ANTM! x

This is the problem with writing a blog post late at night after a weekend of colds / teething! I meant it to come across as ‘it’s a very loose dress whatever size you order, so size down’ but obviously failed spectacularly…I’ll get my coat! 🙂 Exciting that you’re going to have a big old bump soon! I do feel really nostalgic about mine…xx

When I was pregnant, nothing much on my dress has changed, except on the tummy part. I am really thin even when pregnant.

Love the dress,a loose dress would hide any after baby bump without wearing a “tent” not everyone as lucky as you, lucky thing. Did you know Debenhams sell a Joe Brown range and ever so reasonable in their sales
